The Riot Grrrl on Mars

Reviews of the 1997 Berkeley Opera production
and David Scott Marley's adaptation

From the San Francisco Chronicle, 14 July 1997

"Hugely entertaining ... a gloriously funny, tuneful evening"

The Riot Grrrl on Mars, David Scott Marley's wonderful English-language adaptation of Rossini's Italian Girl in Algiers, manages the neat double trick of being both faithful to the original and hugely entertaining to boot.
Throughout the piece, Marley manages to reinvent his source in brilliant strokes both large and small. ... All of this is channeled through a zippy gift for wordplay, with rhymes of Gilbertian intricacy and splendidly unpredictable turns of phrase.
